Aimee Gulliver

GM Public Policy & Government Relations

My name is Aimee and I work at Vector, New Zealand's largest electricity distributor. I lead Vector's public policy and government relations which means I connect what Vector is doing with Government - whether that is Ministers, MPs, Beehive staffers, or Ministry officials. I write submissions and advocate for our interests to the Government. A lot of my work is in building and maintaining relationships and I am very external-facing.

I studied Law and a BA in Politics at Otago and worked for a year as a lawyer at Russell McVeagh. I then studied for a postgraduate diploma in journalism. I worked as a journalist at Stuff including in the Parliamentary press gallery, then went to work for the Minister of Foreign Affairs as chief of staff. My most well-known work would be writing Ashley Bloomfield's speeches for the 1 pm press conferences during the COVID pandemic.

I live in Wellington with my husband and a nearly 3-year-old little girl Frankie. I have just volunteered as Wellington coordinator for the Love Grace handbag appeal, empowering survivors of domestic violence in honour of Grace Millane.

I still consider myself pretty new to energy having been in my role for 18 months - there is so much to learn but I am a great example that you don't need to be a technical expert and that different expertise is needed in different areas. If you're keen to chat I'd love to connect - I'm super passionate about helping young women get ahead.

Evelyn Hunsberger

Data Scientist, Vector

Hi there! I'm Evelyn, a Data Scientist at Vector (the lines company for the electricity and gas in Auckland). I do things like energy forecasts, scenario models, and energy hardship research. I did my undergraduate degree in Physics over in the US, and then a Master of Energy here at the University of Auckland.

I wasn't someone who knew exactly where I wanted my career to go, but I knew that I wanted a job where I felt like I could have a positive impact. So far I feel like the energy sector has been a great place to develop my skills as well as feel like I am helping with New Zealand's journey to decarbonisation. I'd love for more of you all to join me :)

In my free time I like playing sports and salsa dancing. I also just started volunteering as a writer/editor for a climate newsletter called Climate Club - if you're looking for low effort ways to make a difference, check it out!

Looking forward to meeting you!

Genelle Palmer

Environment and Sustainability Manager, Counties Energy

Kia ora, I’m Genelle. I’m currently the Environmental and Sustainability Manager at Counties Energy. My role involves setting sustainability strategy, reducing emissions, working with communities and iwi, and helping leadership teams think about the future — especially how climate change will affect our infrastructure and the people we serve.

I studied Geology and Environmental Management at the University of Otago, and I’ve spent the past 15 years working across geothermal energy, power stations, and national sustainability programmes. A big part of my job is asking good questions, bringing different perspectives together, and turning ideas into practical action.

I didn’t have a perfectly mapped-out career plan at school — I just followed what I was interested in and stayed open to opportunities. Science and sustainability can take you almost anywhere.

Hayley Thomas

Graduate Data Scientist, Vector

Kia Ora, I’m Hayley a Graduate Data Scientist at Vector Limited (the largest distributor of electricity and gas in NZ). I’ve been with Vector for just over a year, where my role involves applying and experimenting with data science and analytics techniques to investigate and understand real‑world behaviour on the electricity network. I love working in the energy sector because I get exposure to big, complex challenges that have real impacts on communities.

I hold an Engineering degree specialising in Engineering Science from the University of Auckland. While I’m still relatively early in my career, I’ve had the opportunity to gain experience across a range of organisations including Powerco, Watercare, and Mott MacDonald. More recently, I completed a secondment with Victoria University of Wellington, contributing to a report on the Cleantech sector in New Zealand.

I'm originally from Mount Maunganui, and outside of work I enjoy podcasts, reading, watching sport, and going to the gym.

I’m really grateful for the exposure I had to engineering and STEM in high school, and I believe talking to people in fields you’re curious about (and asking heaps of questions) is one of the best ways to figure out what interests you most.

I'm excited to meet you, learn more about your interests, and share my experiences :)

Jane Luscombe

GM of Public Relations and Communications, Vector

Kia ora, my name is Jane and I head the public relations and communications team at Vector. We're all about looking after the power in Auckland so people can get on with their lives now and in the future. We're here to help Aotearoa move away from fossil fuels to electricity for their homes, cars and businesses and I work with a lot of impressive (and lovely) people who use technology and data-driven insights to tackle challenges such as affordability, resilience and climate change.
I have a biology degree, and started my career as a journalist in the UK. I worked for newspapers over there, then joined the BBC, where I reported on news and later presented a programme about European politics. I moved to New Zealand a wee while ago and worked as a reporter and producer for TV3's 6pm news, before making the switch to communications several years ago.
When I'm not at work, my partner and I go to a lot of gigs, and travel overseas whenever we can.
I'd love to talk to you about the energy sector and the wide range of jobs that might appeal to you. It's such a great time to be involved in energy, as it's fundamental to everything we do and is changing fast, which makes it an exciting place to be!

Matt Smith

Policy Advisor, Strategic Planning and Technology Integration, Vector Ltd.

Hi, I'm Matt and I support the policy and strategy work that Vector is doing to integrate new technologies onto the network (think EVs, solar panels, and batteries). I studied mechanical engineering and have an interest in technology innovation, which has resulted in 12+ years working in the energy sector focusing on technology for the energy transition and building a more efficient, sustainable future.

Electricity distribution is dealing with cheaper renewable energy and energy storage options being deployed everywhere, a wealth of energy efficiency options, and the rise of the internet of things to help dynamically manage load in buildings to ultimately get the most value we can from fixed infrastructure investments.

I am originally from the US and previously worked in California in SF Bay Area, Los Angeles, and San Diego.

William Austin

Digital Platform Manager, Counties Energy

My career has been anything but a straight line. With a background in politics and philosophy, complemented by a postgraduate diploma in business, I've always brought an analytical and strategic lens to everything I do.
For the past 17 years, I've built my career in the energy industry, working across a diverse range of functions that have given me a well-rounded understanding of the sector from the ground up. I've done contact centre and back-office operations, managed sales channels and outbound sales teams, and worked as an IT Business Partner bridging the gap between digital and operational priorities. More recently, I've turned my focus to digital platform management, delivering projects and steering strategic alignment for maximum business value.
I understand how the pieces fit together, and I can connect the dots across teams and functions in ways that drive results.

Kerry Fabrie

Communications Manager, The Lines Company

Kia ora, I’m Kerry Fabrie, Communications Manager.
I’ve worked in communications across a range of sectors and countries, starting with a large mining company in South Africa, moving into local government in Aotearoa, New Zealand, and now working in the electricity distribution sector. Throughout my career, I’ve seen how powerful good communication can be—especially when people are under pressure, including during civil defence emergencies where clear, calm information really matters.
I hold a Diploma in Public Relations and am qualified in IAP2 (community participation and engagement) as well as Public Information Management (PIM), a key communications role within the civil defence structure.
What I love about working in communications is how versatile and varied it is. No two days are the same—we tell stories about all sorts of things, which gives you a great, broad view of an organisation rather than just one small slice. The work is fast-moving and exciting, with new technology constantly changing how we connect with people, while still valuing good old-fashioned communication too.
I’m excited about seeing more women in the electricity industry and am really looking forward to these mentoring sessions, especially the chance to help inspire young women to achieve their career dreams.

Te Ngahuru Taituha

Communications Advisor

Kia ora, my name is Te Ngahuru Taituha.
I currently serve as a Communications Advisor for The Lines Company, where my work centres on crafting clear, strategic, and community‑focused communications. In this role, I translate complex operational activity into accessible stories that strengthen trust, support customer understanding, and reflect the values that underpin our service to communities. My focus is on ensuring our messaging is purposeful, culturally authentic, and aligned with the needs of the people we serve.
Before stepping into the energy sector, I held the unique distinction of being recognised as New Zealand’s youngest CEO, leading Community Health NZ. At the helm of the organisation, my work focused on guiding our team through initiatives designed to uplift community wellbeing and expand access to meaningful health and social support services.
My leadership was grounded in nurturing talent and creating pathways for diverse voices to contribute and thrive. Through mentoring and collaborative team development, I supported the delivery of programmes committed to educational outcomes, community resilience, and long‑term social impact. These efforts were strengthened by a focus on operational excellence — refining processes, improving systems, and embedding sustainable frameworks that enabled the organisation to grow with integrity and purpose.
Community Health NZ operated with a strong kaupapa: to empower communities through health education, accessible services, and culturally aware support. Our programmes championed equity, built local capability, and amplified voices that are often underrepresented in the wellbeing space. This experience remains central to my leadership style today, shaping my strengths in management, communication, and strategic engagement.
In my current role, I bring that same energy, drive, and kaupapa‑centred approach to the work I do at The Lines Company. I am passionate about the power of communication to connect, uplift, and inspire — and about contributing meaningfully to organisations that serve our people and our future.
